“Rebuke the Judges”

Brant Gardner

In spite of the judges’ accusations, the five continue to testify that Nephi was a prophet. According to Mormon, they bested the judges individually (“one by one”) in some kind of debate. Unfortunately, Mormon includes no details of their arguments. Regardless of the specifics, it is important for Mormon’s moral case that their testimony stand firm against the Gadianton judges. While the voice of the people may have allowed the Gadiantons to gain power, Mormon wants us to understand that it is the Gadiantons and not the Nephites (particularly Nephites who would recognize a true prophet) who are causing the downfall of the Nephite nation.
