In verse 13 Mormon again spells out the curse that has fallen on the Nephites through their faithlessness. When Yahweh removed his protection, they were “left in their own strength.” The Lamanites probably outnumbered the Nephites—they always have—but now, without Yahweh’s intervention, that superiority was crushing. The Nephites’ right to safety in the promised land is revoked.
