Thus we come to the end of the book of Alma which also contained the writings of Helaman and Shiblon, Alma's two sons.
At this point in our study, we have completed two-thirds of the Book of Mormon. The next volume is the grande finale.
The early part of the third volume helps us understand the shattering impact of the Gadianton robbers as this murderous secret combination spreads its power over the people. Later on we learn that this murder cult annihilated the entire Jaredite civilization in a single generation. It also rose to power among the Nephites in 300 A.D. and by 385 A.D. it had wiped out the Nephite people as a nation.
By way of contrast, it is in this third volume that we cover the thrilling ministry of the resurrected Christ in America. We discover that during the Savior's visit to the Nephites he explained many gospel principles which cannot be found in any other scripture.
Jesus also referred to the restoration of the gospel in our day and how it will spread across the entire earth. There are also many prophecies concerning the upsurge of wickedness and secret combinations which Satan will mobilize against the Saints in the latter days. In the book of Third Nephi Jesus describes how the wicked gentiles will so corrupt the land that a complete cleansing will eventually take place. Then the New Jerusalem will be built and America will be prepared for the Second Coming.
