“The Capture of Cumeni, Second City”

Monte S. Nyman

The addition of supplies and men brought a desire for another battle. Helaman now shows how they accomplished their desire (vv. 7–8). His desire to show Captain Moroni is not a precept to the reader as “I will show unto you” usually is used. It was not an insert by Mormon, but Helaman explaining in the epistle what they accomplished. However, we can certainly learn from it. One of the principles that brought victory in the second battle, retaking the city of Cumeni, was to cut off the Lamanites supplies (v. 10). The same is true in any battle. In the war against addiction, pornography, terrorism, or many other evil influences it is essential to cut off the supply of the sources. Again, the city is taken without the shedding of blood.
