Although Mormon has given the impression of a very large Lamanite army, casualties of a thousand are comparatively small—certainly not the bulk of this Lamanite army. The turning point was the deaths of the chief captains. These deaths signaled defeat, or at the very least incapacitated the coordination of the attack by removing the signal banners.
