“Entered into a Covenant of Peace”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Mercy in the conduct of war has a healing effect on those who must fight it, lessens the brutality of conflict, and brings the blessings of the Lord (compare 43:54). As the Lord said, “For intelligence cleaveth unto intelligence; wisdom receiveth wisdom; truth embraceth truth; virtue loveth virtue; light cleaveth unto light; mercy hath compassion on mercy and claimeth her own” (D&C 88:40; emphasis added). Those who are merciful may lay hold on the power of the Merciful One to make things right and whole.
