At this point, Mormon begins a small historical unit on Nephite-Lamanite battles. They become a more important theme as the Messiah’s birth approaches, but here Mormon is simply setting the stage for the increased conflict. He positions the historical material here to provide context but ends the entire chapter with Alma’s glorious response to his friends (our chapter 29).
