“Let Us Go Down and Rely Upon the Mercies of Our Brethren”

Brant Gardner

Ammon knows that slavery is not an option in Zarahemla and explains it to the king. Rather, they should “rely upon the mercies of our brethren.” The king is still reluctant, as communicated by the “but” that begins verse 10. He reminds Ammon to consult Yahweh. The king will rely upon Yahweh’s mercies, not man’s.
