“People of the Lord”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
These converted Lamanites are now properly referred to as “people of the Lord” and, as such, are entitled to the same blessings of protection enjoyed by the nation of the Nephites. See verse 12.

“Let Us Gather Together This People of the Lord”

Ammon, as the prophet-leader of this people, having in a spiritual sense led them to God, now leads them to a temporal salvation, a land of safety. In so doing he becomes a rather remarkable type for the Messiah, who will also first offer the doctrines of the kingdom and eventually lead all who have embraced those doctrines to a place of safety. Similarly, as we are about to read, these people will be given Ammon’s name (see verse 26), even as all the faithful must be given the name of our Lord and Master.
