“Lamanites Saw That They Could Not Overpower the Nephites”

W. Cleon Skousen

This is a great watershed chapter where the converted Lamanites are led by the missionaries to leave the land of the Lamanites. They received a royal welcome among the Nephites. They are also given a new section of land for their new homes called the land of Jershon.

It will be recalled that the first wave of destruction against the Anti-Nephi-Lehies was before the Lamanites army had gone to annihilate the city of Ammonihah. After they annihilated Ammonihah they were finally driven back into their own lands. There might have been peace thereafter but the Amalekites, who were a bitter apostate group of former Nephites, decided to gratify their passion for vengeance by renewing the slaughter of Anti-Nephi-Lehies, knowing that they would not make any resistance. In this savage attack against the Anti-Nephi-Lehies the Amalekites did not have the support of any Amulonites because the remnants of the Lamanite army had been killing off Amulonites wherever they could find them.1
