“Whom They So Dearly Beloved and So Dearly Beloved Them”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

The unwavering commitment of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies to nonviolence evoked the empathy of Ammon, who helped relocate them. Verse 4 contains a poignant description of the relationship between missionaries and their converts: “those whom they so dearly beloved, and … those who had so dearly beloved them—for they were treated as though they were angels sent from God to save them.” For more about missionaries as angels (or messengers), see commentary at 2 Nephi 32:1–5 and Alma 8:18–20.
