“Thus Ended the Ninth Year of the Reign of the Judges over the People of Nephi”

W. Cleon Skousen

We gain the impression from the opening part of this chapter that Alma performed an extensive mission in Gideon before he returned to Zarahemla for a good rest.

As we reflect on the events of the ninth year of the judges we cannot help but be impressed by the phenomenal impact which Alma's reform movement had upon the Nephites. But after a brief rest, Alma is determined to make the tenth year just as fruitful. However he would never have guessed what this tenth year had in store for him.
