“He Will Take Upon Him Death”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
That is, he will submit to death, surrender his own mortal life to the greater plan of happiness which requires his suffering and death and subsequent rise from the tomb. Jesus did not have to die, meaning that his nature was such-as the Son of Man of Holiness, thus possessing the powers of immortality-that he could have lived forever. Had he not given up the ghost of his own free will he could have spurned the powers of earth and remained alive. His was a voluntary offering. “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.” (John 10:17-18.)
