“He Was Not Made King Over the People”

Brant Gardner

Here we have the reverse of the sustainings of Zeniff, Benjamin, etc. Amlici could not achieve a majority of the voice of the people; therefore, even if he had been appointed king, he could not be king. The people’s support was critically important in a society without a standing army. If the people withdrew support (food and other goods) from the rulers, they could not continue.
