Because Alma hungered and thirsted after righteousness, because he had been willing to sacrifice all things for the cause of Christ, even his own life, and because of his ceaseless efforts to lead others back to the eternal presence through the ordinances of salvation, God swore to him that his salvation was secure, that his calling and election had been made sure, that the highest of eternal rewards would be his in the world to come (see D&C 97:8; D&C 131:5-6; D&C 132:49-50; Teachings, pp. 149-50).
