It is a weighty matter to “sit in judgment upon transgressors” (D&C 107:72). Truly, as Joseph Smith taught, “none but fools will trifle with the souls of men” (Teachings, p. 137). Lacking the certainty of experience, Alma here sought the confirmation of revelation.
