“Amulon and His Brethren Appointed Teachers”

Monte S. Nyman

The priests of Amulon were further commissioned to teach the Nephite language to the Lamanites. The language of one or both had changed over the four hundred years of being a separate peoples. Again, we ask whether the Lord’s hand was not involved in this assignment? While they did not teach the law of Moses or the words of Abinadi (v. 5), which they were not qualified to teach anyway, did they not prepare the way for the future Nephite missionaries, the sons of Mosiah, to proclaim the gospel among the Lamanites? With both languages they could understand each other and converse. The Lord being involved in the teaching of the Nephite language seems very plausible.
