“Gideons Plan of Deliverance”

Monte S. Nyman

Once more Gideon, the stalwart defender of righteousness, comes into the picture. His study resulted in a plan to pay a tribute of wine to the Lamanites, and while they were drunken to escape through a secret pass (vv. 6–9). The plan worked perfectly. The people of Limhi were delivered from bondage by the hand of the Lord only after they followed the four-step repentance process given to them by King Limhi (vv. 9–12). Note that Ammon and his brethren led them back to Zarahemla. This was the suggested reason for the Lord inspiring them to find the people in the land of Lehi-Nephi in the first place.
