“Wo Be Unto You for Perverting the Ways of the Lord!”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

The priests of Noah, professing to be the watchmen of the Lord, assumed the responsibility to warn their people of impending dangers. Not only did they fail to keep the watch, but they became instigators of the very evils from which they were to protect their people. They became as wolves in sheep’s clothing. They, and all their counterparts in earth’s history, will stand without defense at the day of judgment.

They can make no claim to ignorance, for they professed both the knowledge of God and the authority to act in his name. They have taken the name of the Lord in vain (D&C 63:62), and such will not be found guiltless. Were this not crime enough, they have added their own works of darkness and then enticed others to follow their evil example. Properly, Abinadi says, “Wo be unto you for perverting the ways of the Lord!”
