“And I Amaleki, Had a Brother”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Though his account is short, Amaleki is a faithful and devoted servant of the Lord who plays a vital part in the process of ensuring continuity of the word of God down through time. In this context, Amaleki also alludes to the fact that his brother (unnamed) has participated in the exploratory group of men desiring to return to the land of Nephi, the land of their origin. It is a man named Zeniff who leads the group back to the land of Nephi, his grandson Limhi being responsible for discovering the records of the Jaredites contained on the twenty-four gold plates of Ether (see Mosiah 8:9; 21:27). Thus Amaleki’s final words anticipate a future event that will lead to the addition of valuable scriptural treasures to be preserved and made available for modern-day readers.
