Brant Gardner notes that if we suppose that the Mulekites entered into an area speaking common Zoquean, and that the people of Zarahemla ended up at the local land of Zarahemla because it was an area to which those speakers gravitated, then it is perhaps this linguistic affinity with others in the surrounding area that created Amaleki's description as "exceeding numerous"" in reference to the numbers of people speaking that language rather than specifically to those in residence in the local land of Zarahemla area.
