“An Hundred and Seventy and Nine Years Had Passed Away from the Time That Our Father Lehi Left Jerusalem”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

If 179 years had transpired since Lehi’s departure from Jerusalem, the year would be 420 b.c., and Jacob and Enos had both lived long lives. Enos had been faithful in raising the voice of warning among his people and could look forward and rejoice at the prospect of his imminent meeting with the Savior: “Then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father.” Enos had the assurance of life eternal with God, just like his grandfather Lehi and father, Jacob (2 Nephi 1:15). All possessed the “more sure word of prophecy,” knowing they were sealed up to the highest heaven (D&C 131:5). As already mentioned, the “rest” of the Lord is “the fulness of his glory” (D&C 84:24).
