“He Had Been Deceived by the Power of the Devil”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Sherem recognized that he had been deceived by the power of the devil. We may feel sorry for him, but he made his own choices. Satan can exercise great power over us, but only as we allow him to do so (see also commentary at 1 Nephi 22:15–17). 15 Otherwise, he has no power. There is a much greater power in the universe, and Jacob specifically asked for a manifestation of that divine power upon his people. His request was heard and his prayer answered. Once again peace and love prevailed, and the people searched the scriptures, possibly copies of the plates of brass.
