“Deceived by the Power of the Devil”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Sherem, who is deceived by the devil, soon comes to retract his false teachings. Why are people deceived by the devil? Because they are enticed by the things that are pleasing to the carnal mind (see Alma 30:53). We are counseled to do all in our power to be spiritually minded (see 2 Nephi 9:39). The carnal mind has been described as follows: “Unconverted men are so called (1 Cor. 3:3). They are represented as of a ‘carnal mind, which is enmity against God’ (Rom. 8:6, 7). Enjoyments that minister to the wants and desires of man’s animal nature are so called (Rom. 15:27; 1 Cor. 9:11).” (Illustrated Bible Dictionary, M. G. Easton.)
