“He Will Console You in Your Afflictions”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
The rains of affliction fall upon all who travel the path of mortality. The sunshine of relief from the vicissitudes of this world come through powers from beyond this world. The people of God are entitled to the Spirit of God, through the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is a revelator, a sanctifier, and a sealer. He is also a comforter. “Because the Holy Spirit speaks peace to the hearts of weary and disconsolate mortals,” wrote Elder Bruce R. McConkie, “he is called the Comforter. He brings peace and solace, love and quiet enjoyment, the joy of redemption and the hope of eternal life.” (New Witness, p. 268.)
