“Babes Shall Rule Over Them”

Brant Gardner

With the removal of all of the talented, leaving "the poorest sort of the people of the land" (2 Kngs. 24:14), Jerusalem is left with nothing better than figurative children and babes to rule over them. This is not necessarily referring to age (except where age conferred wisdom, and therefore those elderly wise were removed) but rather to the inexperience and ineffectiveness of those who would remain as their rulers.
