“Thirty Years Had Passed from Jerusalem”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

Thirty years after leaving Jerusalem, Nephi wrote a felicitous description of his people: “We lived after the manner of happiness,” a perfect one-sentence summary of the kind of fulfilling life our Father wants all of us to live.

Nephi reminded us of his obedience to the Lord’s command to make two sets of plates, and on this one—the set that eventually came down into the hands of the Prophet Joseph Smith—Nephi engraved the things that are “pleasing unto God. And if my people are pleased with the things of God they will be pleased with mine engravings which are upon these plates.”
