The life’s work of Joseph Smith would include bringing forth the Book of Mormon and also spending additional years of his prophetic career restoring, revising, correcting, augmenting, clarifying, and expounding the text of the Bible The two volumes would help bring people to the Savior.
The Bible and the Book of Mormon together accomplish just what verse 12 describes: they confound false doctrine, lay down contentions, establish peace, and bring us to a knowledge of our ancestors and of the Lord’s covenants.
With the coming forth of the complementary editions of the scriptures (the Bible in 1979 and the triple combination in 1981) the prophecy in 2 Nephi 3:12 and Ezekiel 37:15–17 stands fulfilled. We have witnessed a stunning fulfillment of a significant ancient prophecy in our day.
