“O That Ye Would Awake!”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Lehi considers the opponents of Nephi as spiritually "asleep," and bound with chains, and that they had been reduced to that condition by influences from hell. Their opposition was a kind of hypnotic influence from the infernal regions, but their condition was voluntary on their part. He, therefore, exhorts them to awake and shake off the chains. No one needs to be held in bondage by the adversary against his own will.
