Lehi’s action on behalf of his children raises a question of conscience for us all: Do we consistently bless our children by teaching them to walk in the ways of truth? We all know and recognize that family is first and foremost in our lives. The plan of salvation and exaltation is centered in the family unit wherein are found the greatest work and joy in life. Let us therefore do what matters most for our families in the context of their temporal and spiritual security. According to Lehi, we should:
• Emphasize the blessings that flow from the Lord—despite our shortcomings and weaknesses.
• Confirm the truth of the word of God as a means of ensuring our safety and progress.
• Stress the covenant relationship we have with God.
