“Liken All Scriptures Unto Us”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

As we read the scriptures, we can apply them to our lives in a sincere and purposeful way. The Lord will bless us with knowledge, wisdom, and guidance for our lives. When Nephi said, “I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning,” (1 Nephi 19:23), he was advising us, as Elder Russell M. Nelson states, “to weave the fiber of scriptural wisdom into the fabric of our own being” (The Power within Us [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1988], 29). We learn in the beginning of the Book of Mormon that the test of mankind is always before us. Will we choose to obey the will of the Lord and receive the blessings of heaven or lose them through disobedience? The key is to learn vicariously from the scriptures.
