Laman and Lemuel’s amazement at Nephi’s contemplating the building of a ship (vv. 17–18), is further evidence of their party not knowing they would have to cross the waters to get to the promised land. Their objections, other than about Nephi’s inability to build a ship, were basically the same ones they had previously repented of or acknowledged to be inaccurate since leaving Jerusalem.
