“Faith and Diligence and Heed”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Exercising faith, persevering in diligence, and giving heed to the word of the Lord brings into our lives certainty concerning the direction we should go. We see these ancient emigrants striving to measure up to the standards of faith, obedience, courage, and alignment with the scriptural truths that were decreed by God to be the central characteristics of His covenant relationship with Israel.

Throughout the Book of Mormon we see the rise and fall of the Nephite nation in accordance with their inclination either to give heed or set aside the principles embodied in the word of God and thus suffer the consequences of disobedience. Into a world where this dichotomy is so dramatically evident, the Lord, in His loving-kindness, has introduced an infallible guidance system. Our Liahona is the word of God (see Alma 37:37–47). As we hearken to the word and heed its divine message, we will walk uprightly before God.
