“They Had Humbled Themselves Because of My Words”

Brant Gardner

Redaction: This sentence begins with Lehi’s action (“he did inquire”), but immediately follows with “for they had humbled themselves.” Probably Nephi’s inquiry was enough to humble Lehi, but who else is included in “they”? Without doubt, Nephi’s brothers. Perhaps their humility also created a more favorable atmosphere for the prophetic communication. Nephi indicates that he spoke more to his brothers (and possibly family?) than he has recorded. His description of speaking “in the energy of my soul” probably means that he was under the influence of the Spirit at the time.
