Having kept all the commandments, the Lord gave them some help to travel in the wilderness. The “round ball of curious workmanship” (v. 10) was a divine instrument to receive “revelation adapted to the circumstances” they would meet in the wilderness (TPJS, 256). More will be said about this instrument under 1 Nephi 16:28–29.
