“It Was a Representation of Things Both Temporal and Spiritual”

W. Cleon Skousen

Laman and Lemuel immediately recognized that the flame of God's justice suggested there would be torment for the wicked at some time. Immediately they wanted to know whether this was a torment in the spirit world after they died or a torment of the body in this life. This was an interesting question because it shows that these apostate brothers already identified themselves with the wicked and they want to know when they would be tormented. They knew they had it coming to them. Nephi said it would be both in the flesh and in the spirit world.
