The imagery given in the above verses were discussed in the interpretation of the dream or vision given to Lehi in 1 Nephi 8. A few additional observations will be made here. What we should learn from Lehi’s dream (v. 24) was the precept for the previous discussion in chapter three. Nephi, having seen the same vision, observed some things that his father had not: the filthiness of the water and its interpretation (vv. 27–29). Nephi then recounts what his father saw (v. 30).
