Despite the apparent clarity of the tree of life image, Laman and Lemuel (and possibly Sam) did not understand it. They were undoubtedly familiar with this common cultural image so, like Nephi, some aspect of the vision must have made it difficult for them to correlate Lehi’s tree with the tree of life.
