“As Well in Times of Old”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
One of the false doctrines prevalent in the Christian world today is the notion that the Holy Ghost was manifest for the first time in the meridian of time-in the days during and following the time of Jesus of Nazareth. in fact, modern revelation (including the Book of’ Mormon) affirms that the Holy Ghost is a spirit in the form of a man, a spirit whose specific functions in the Godhead as revelator, testifier, sanctifier, and sealer have been known and experienced from the beginning of the earth’s history. in speaking of the prophecies of “old time,” Peter explained that “holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:21). “And thus the Gospel began to be preached, from the beginning,” the ancient record attests regarding the Adamic dispensation, “being declared by holy angels sent forth from the presence of God, and by his own voice and by the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Moses 5:58). Wherever and whenever the servants of the Lord have been commissioned as legal administrators in the kingdom of God on earth, there the gift of the Holy Ghost is found.
