Lehi repeats his prophetic foreknowledge that Jerusalem will be destroyed and that Israel will experience first captivity, then restoration to its homeland. Lehi’s gathering is, historically, the return of the Jews from their captivity in Babylon, not the restoration of the ten tribes. Book of Mormon prophets are interested in the gathering of Lehi’s descendants into the fold of Israel. They pay scant attention to the tribes that were “lost” in the Assyrian conquest around one hundred years before the Book of Mormon opens.
