“Continually Holding Fast to the Rod”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
The third group of people witnessed by Lehi obtained the path, pressed forward in righteousness, caught hold of the rod of iron, and held fast to that rod, “until they came forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree.” Nothing more was said of this group. It would appear that this was the one group of persons who remained steadfast to the gospel cause, proved faithful to their covenants with the Lord, and qualified for those transcendent privileges associated with exaltation in the highest heaven. These persons are described elsewhere as those whose soil was “good ground,” and which thereafter bore fruit and brought forth, “some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty” (Matthew 13:8, 23).
