Although Lehi is not taught the full extent of his dream’s meaning, Nephi’s later vision reveals that the “rod of iron” symbolizes the word of God. Individuals must hold fast to God’s commandments, staying on the spiritual path even in times of darkness and trial, if they wish to partake fully of God’s love.
