“Things of God”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Among God’s greatest gifts to mankind is the gift of His word, granted as a loving endowment to build faith, secure obedience, and open the gateway to immortality and eternal life. The mission of prophets is to preserve this word and convey it to God’s children. Nephi is commanded to make plates and to engrave thereon the record of his people and the record of his father—including Lehi’s and Nephi’s own prophecies—that he might persuade men to come unto Christ. All scriptures testify of Christ. They are testaments or witnesses of our Savior. We are to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (see D&C 84:44). They are written to invite all to come unto Christ and be perfected in Him (see Moroni 10:32). Alma used the word of God to reclaim the Zoramites (see Alma 31:4–5), and we are to use the scriptures for similar purposes in our service to the Lord. We are to open our mouths (see D&C 33:8–10) and warn our neighbors (see D&C 88:81).
