“Obtained the Record, Search Them”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

It is one thing to have access to the scriptures of God; it is quite another to search them actively and harvest the wisdom and truth preserved therein. In section 84 of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord reproves His people for having “treated lightly the things you have received” (D&C 84:54). He warns them that “they shall remain under this condemnation until they repent and remember the new covenant, even the Book of Mormon and the former commandments which I have given them, not only to say, but to do according to that which I have written—That they may bring forth fruit meet for their Father’s kingdom… .” (D&C 84:57–58). Continually reading from the holy scriptures and applying with devotion the divine counsel contained therein will help us “bring forth fruit” meet for the kingdom of God.
