As exciting as the future coming forth of these plates is, Nephi reminds us of their value at that time, “to preserve the commandments of the Lord unto our children” (v. 21). As with Nephi, the Lord has promised the restoration of many other records to us in the not too distant future, but more important is the purpose of the ones he has already restored. These were given “to try [our] faith, and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made manifest unto [us]” (3 Nephi 26:9).
