Apparently Zoram would have been able to deduce the route from the direction by which Nephi had led him out of the city. Having left through a particular city gate, Zoram would have probably known which trade route lay in that direction. And even if Nephi did not think that Zoram would guess correctly, taking Zoram along was apparently the most prudent action.
