In the dark, wearing the armor of Laban, he might be mistaken for Laban. But how could he disguise his voice, especially when speaking to a servant who would surely know Laban’s voice? Nephi recognizes Zoram, this servant, as the one who had the keys to the treasury. He must certainly have learned that information on an earlier visit. When seeing the very person he needed, Nephi probably felt renewed confirmation that he was being guided by the Spirit. Thus, he found that he spoke with Laban’s voice. That discovery would have further affirmed his sense that Yahweh was behind his actions.
