The sons of Lehi sought to the best of their abilities to obtain the brass treasure. After they cast lots, Laman went and sought to reason with Laban in hopes that the latter would grant the request of the family and comply with the will of the Almighty. He did not. Then, recognizing Laban’s attraction to monetary things, the brothers agreed to return to their home and retrieve many of their precious possessions in the hope of purchasing the record. This attempt also failed, and the morale of the wayward ones—Laman and Lemuel—waned quickly.
