“Sam… Believed in My Words”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
Sam was touched by the power of Nephi’s testimony and proved to be an able and conscientious support to his younger brother. Sam possessed the spiritual gift to believe the words of those who know. “To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the world. To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful.” (D&C 46:13-14.) Perhaps much as Aaron and Hyrum Smith were with regard to their younger brothers—Moses and Joseph Smith—Sam seemed to recognize in Nephi the one chosen and prepared by the Lord as a prophet-leader of the Lehite colony.
