“He Should Take His Family and Depart into the Wilderness”

W. Cleon Skousen

This revelation must have temporarily stunned Lehi. This command involved a complete uprooting of Lehi and his family. It required them to abandon their home, all their wealth, and head out into the wilderness southeast of Jerusalem. No doubt they left their gold, silver and jewelry in a treasure cave. Such a cave has been actually found near the community of Lehi. It is not a natural cave. It has a small entrance with the interior dug out by hand. This cave was found only a few years ago. It has writings on the walls with Hebrew letters which were used around 600 B.C. before the Jews were carried away to Babylon. The archaeologists at Hebrew University feel that this was indeed a treasure cave which was covered over and lost somewhere near 600 B.C.
